Simonside hills in winter
|
Whitton Grange, adjacent to The Lodge, is a "William
and Mary" style Country House based on the original house of 1706. Both are
set in acres of lawn and gardens on the lower slopes of the Simonside Hills in
the quiet hamlet of Whitton. The premises overlook the attractive market town of
Rothbury in the beautiful Coquet valley, the Simonside Hills and the Cheviots.
The Grange, and many parts within its grounds, are listed by the D.o.E. as being
of special architectural or historical interest.
|
|
Gardening is a major interest of the owners
of the Grange and the Garden demonstrates the beauties of an Arts and
Crafts Garden designed by Mauchlen in 1919. Other notable Gardens in the
district include, Alnwick Castle, Howick Hall, Wallington Hall and
Herterton House.
